Our Story

A market built by the community, for the community

Sunrise Side Co-op Market was born from a simple conviction: that people in Alpena deserve access to fresh, locally grown food without traveling out of town. What started as a handful of neighbors sharing a weekend table has grown into a thriving cooperative that serves as the culinary heart of our community.

As a member-owned cooperative, every decision we make is guided by the question: does this serve our neighbors? From the farmers who supply our produce to the bakers and artisans who fill our shelves, we prioritize relationships over transactions. The result is a market that feels less like a store and more like a gathering place.
